variable_instance_set(id, "background_z", [1, 2]);
show_debug_message(background_z); // OK
show_debug_message(background_x); // Not OK

The global `background_x` had been eliminated and is OK to use as instance variable... except for this one bit, I guess
Additional InformationI think this is somewhat recent cause Rivals of Aether used this for a while as far as I can tell, and now I spend two hours trying to figure out why the variables are missing, blaming myself first-most
