0002746: Regular expression functions

Description

I would like to ask for regular expression functionality

e.g.
regexp_match Perform a regular expression match
regexp_replace Perform a regular expression search and replace
regexp_split Split string by a regular expression

There was a case I needed to check if an email address field was valid *before* sending to the server and just wasn't possible without a regexp extension.
Built-in regular expressions would allow for much easier string manipulation as well.
